Okay, I just released the new song.

I used all of my distribution channels to give it out. In all honesty, if I was to do this properly, there should’ve been a teaser campaign, but I didn’t have the time to do that. Also, I don’t have the time to maintain the new social profiles created for Maytane Winner. It’s a personal mistake, resulting from my inaccurate time management predictions.

What’s the Song Like?

So, the song was meant to be provocative, fun, yet still showing some of that leadership persona I’d like Maytane to represent.

Some of the stuff I say in there is crazy, but heyI- it was damn fun! Did you catch the last one “I’m holding it down”? Insider joke for the ones who’ve watched that vine.

I did the mixing and mastering on my own and it should be getting better over time.

It’s far from perfect at this stage, but I’m still trying to learn as much as I can on my own. Paying someone to do it for me, which I can always do, isn’t as challenging as this DIY approach.

Releasing the song is just the start. Tomorrow, I’ll reveal what’s the next step.

What did you think though? What did you like and hate about it?

It’s a bit hard for me to review this because I’m more into the boom bap side of things, and beats like this one aren’t really my thing. However, that’s completely subjective so as long as you like it I’m happy with it. Things that I liked are the rhyming, and the whole song progressed really well. Like, there were plenty of switches in the beat as well as the flow and it may be more subtle, but you did a lot of tricks, and that’s to be appreciated! I liked how you played with the melodies, as well as leaving space for things to be catchy which helps the listeners enjoy the song more, especially on subsequent plays.

The only downside would be perhaps the clarity/energy of your voice, but again, I believe English isn’t your native language so that’s understandable. And if English is your first language, then I’d suggest working on having more punch into your voice, which should be easier to practice if there’s no foreign language barrier.

I appreciate the review man. What do you mean by punch? The way I stress on words or what?

Hmm, just the overall energy and confidence in the voice I guess. Maybe Day One by D.I.T.C. would be a good example, like how Big L comes with a more powerful delivery right after Diamond D – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NxGVdpZnGsI

Haha if I could give you a slight bit of criticism though, at a few times I found myself having to listen a bit harder to hear the vocals over the beat. I think if the vocals were just a little bit louder it would have been absolutely perfect. Even so, it’s awesome and if you get any better you’re gonna be rich and famous haha love it man

First off I would like to say that your delivery doesn’t even sound like the same person. Your other song last souls had gold lyrics, but it was nearly impossible to understand a lot of what you said because you mumbled and were very monotone (that with your accent made it impossible). Don’t get me wrong, we all have accents, it’s just the ability to work with them.

This song, your delivery was on point. There was much more soul to the music, and your voice/tone slightly changed depending on flow which was appropriate imo.

It was nice hearing all the flow changes, I am a big fan of that! You executed them very well. One one flow I found you a little more difficult to understand but still understandable and the flow was nice regardless (around 1:15 min mark flow).

For parts like that, I would recommend trying something I do. Which is smoking and being cotton mouthed for that part. For some of my raps, I find being dry mouthed makes a massive difference in how my words sound and their pronunciation is much clearer (for me), making accent less heavy.

Just my .02 cents, I recommend giving that a try. Other than that, great job. The delivery was remarkably better and made music much more soulful.

In regards for mixing and mastering, I have no knowledge on the subject as my iPhone voice memos is my studio.

Congrats on the song and the best of luck to you in its marketing stage!

Also as admin you have the advantage of posting it everywhere as you have done so already, BUT you should make an article about the song, your approach to it and it’s purpose. Putting everyone in the inner circle will create more buzz. Having an article explaining all that and your reasonings will have people more interested in hearing the song.

Some people want to read before they listen, you have the credibility as is, now it’s just having that closer rapport with the members of the site. You are at a great advantage as the rm admin, take more advantage of that! You have the users respect, bring then in closer and your music will be more widespread. Offer an inside view that is privy soley to the site.

Give us an article about you and who you are aside from rm admin. Make people interested in your life as well and it will spark more interest.

It’s super cool that you see an improvement from my last songs.. The previous ones were more or less test songs, just remembering how to do it.. but still-it’s nice to know that the rust is now off..

Thank you and yeah man, you’re running ahead of me lol, which is awesome! I have a whole thing planned next, which is meant to let people know who am I, as a person. I’m going to write about it today actually.

One more time, thank you for checking the song out, I’m really glad you liked it man.

Happy for your succession, and you know me, just a business mind. Glad to see you approaching it that way as is.

I don’t have connections and what not and don’t know how to market a song, but I know all about marketing yourself and how crowds are swayed and building rapport by having an “inner circle”. A person is their own business, one must market themselves appropriately.

Also, just a thought. I have never seen this done before, but Idealy it should sky rocket views on a song/video.

            1. Put something at the end that refers to the beginning. That way when they finish the song they are wondering what something meant and replay it to hear the start. Maybe a question at the end but you had provided the answer at the start.

            2. Also doing something weird as fuck in your video on some point. That way the video is referenced more than before and ppl wil tell others “check this out, so fuckin weird but what a dope song. Video is nuts”

            Just some thoughts

          • RappingManual

Hmm that first one I never thought of actually.. Maybe the two pieces of a phrase or something? As far as the video, of course man..in order for you to get to that viral status, weird shit is a must lol!

          • Kevin Legend

Yea parts of a phrase, or a question about something you said at the start of it.

Maybe by the end of the song you end with opposite of your first line, then be like, wait a minute what did I say first?

Iunno different ways to do it, but would be a smart way to increase replays. People will want to remember what was said, or the answer, or the rest of the phrase all together.

Street smarts help, but business minds push further. Approach things from different angles that ppl won’t think of.

          • Kevin Legend

you clearly have a business mind since you have this site, just apply it to your music as well. what reasons would people have to replay something, what are all ways to make em replay. use different methods in different songs.

Guys, I think I just found a way to start having challenges with audio now! Not entirely sure will it work, but I’ll definitely try setting this up! If it’s good, we’ll have a whole new series of challenges and stuff man!

It should be done via Soundcloud, so you guys have to create a soundcloud account and this code will let you link your soundcloud recordings to an article.

So we’ll have the challenge and there’ll be a button which would ask for your soundcloud link. Once you link it, your attempt will show on the article and we can vote on the best ones!

I think the code is responsive, so I see no problem doing this from your phones as well. I’m looking into it right now though, so I’m not promising anything! I’ll try my best to configure it and see will it function properly.

Your vocals could use less compression and more punch man. I appreciate the creative play with the flows.

That’s an awesome advice man thank you! I’m still at the mixing stage where I often say “Let’s turn this knob and see what happens”, so telling me this is honestly very beneficial!

When you say more punch, do you mean punch with the actual intonation, or when it comes to mixing the vocal?

I mean with the mixing sir, you can achieve this through by reducing the high ends and the mid ends slightly in the EQ, then use some gating around -20db and compressor around -45 db, then we use the some reverberation with the dry mix in full. Often listen to your vocals on solo and check how clean and loud they sound! And I like this song bro, I dig this.
